Professional Genealogy
What is Professional Genealogy?
You may be surprised to learn the wide range of skills that fall under the umbrella of professional genealogy. Most are likely familiar with the 'professional research for hire' aspect of professional genealogy — where you can hire an experienced researcher to help you with or conduct family history research on your behalf. The Association of Professional Genealogists has identified a number of additional skills that can be included as part of the professional genealogy discipline.
Some of the specialty skills that are also valued as professional genealogy include: Archivist, Author, Brochure Design, Columnist, Compiler/Indexer, Conference Planner, Editor, Heirs Researcher, House Historian, Lecturer/Speaker, Marketing Consultant, Specialty Photographer, Web Designer, and many more. APG member Dan Lynch, through his firm of Mattatuck Consulting has provided a number of these services, both to individuals and families, as well as to some of the genealogy industries largest companies (nonprofit and commercial).

For those APG members that are part of the NY Metro Chapter, here are some links to items we've discussed at monthly meetings. If you are a member with a link that you wish to share with others, please send it along and I'll be happy to include it.
